advanced style

i'm always on the lookout for role models. i'm interested in discovering older women aging gracefully, keeping a youthful spirit and a connection to culture. it was really exciting to watch The September Issue and discover one of the most powerful women working in fashion today is 70 yr old Grace Coddington. (she is the creative director of American Vogue).

the blog Advanced style is full of inspirational women who don't intend to fade into the background as they age. my favorite part of the blog is the videos where we get to hear about these women and their thoughts on presenting themselves to the world. here i discovered the beautiful woman in the header image is Mimi Weddell . An American actress who began her career at 65. She died in 2009 but her 90's she was still working 14 hour days working, auditioning, keeping fit and learning.

bruce weber

have wanting to take some B&W photos of my 3 young boys. i want to capture the beauty of their bodies in mid-play. to me its a glorious display of pure joyful physicality. i want to capture that precious lack of self consciousness while it lasts. inspired by Bruce Weber's family portraits from the 90's. I'm picturing evening low sun, long grass and summery bare limbs, wrestling and chasing. the big problem is of course to protect their innocence. i guess the best way to do that is to make sure the results will only be displayed on my wall and out of the public domain.

dandelion

humble little dandelion. ordinary pest to most yet the seed heads are full of delight for kids. the leaves & vitamins are apparently full of vitamins and good to put in salads.

i love the geometry of the seed head structure. a configuration that is popular with fountain designers. this one is in Christchurch NZ

small

big

this is the dandelion fountain at kings cross near where we lived in sydney. i used to marvel at how grand and impressive this weed looked as a giant public fountain

Pip & Pop

Pip and Pop (aka Tanya Schultz and Nicole Andrijevic) are collaborative artists based in Perth, Western Australia. I am absolutely enchanted by the little worlds they create. Microcosms that look like they incorporate many objects I have a personal passion for including plastic found objects, mirrors, crystals, coloured sand, lights.

their complex, intricate installations appear to span whole rooms

delicious!

how do they do it?!!

hope to see their work in real life soon
